Planetary empires project

After an enormous amount of deliberation and list writing (35 in all) Ive settled on Tyranids, mainly because the image of 2,500pts of nids pouring over a board is to good to pass up. So much needs to be done, things expanded, basing improved and things made.

Speaking of things made, work has already begun. Stage 1 Parasite or Mortrex and Harpy are now complete, improved basing and possibly other enhancements will be made army wide when its all in at least a playable condition. Without further rambling I give you...

Vlka Fenryka part 2

So Ive been busy as ever. Im really quite happy with these, a little more effort on basing continued and in the case of the bikes Im quite chuffed with the slate/snow combo. Then from a gaming perspective you cant go wrong with a wolf lord and a rune priest leading a unit of swiftclaw bikers.

The lone wolf, as evidenced by shanes articulate response to an earlier post gamers dont really like reading. So to keep it brief the idea here is that he fought alongside blood angels in some horrific past campaign and in honour of a brother from the blood angels noble sacrifice he now fights with the fallen angels chainsword and wears a robe to honour the brother chapter.

Then of course theres long fangs, the weapon choices were made largely due to what heavy weapons I had, first game was a flop however as my plasma cannons seem to like over heating; perhaps I should have sculpted them to be dipping the hot weapons in the snow.

Vlka Fenryka

First space wolf finished and Im rather happy. Im going for a bit more zazzle on the basing that usual, though nowhere near Marts standards. Ive chosen purple (surprise surprise) and yellow to do pack markings, in my earlier post I described how they have all been bonded as one pack and fight outside the normal great companies; so all will have the purple/yellow claw markings.

Im on with a unit of 5 bikes and a mounted wolf lord and rune priest now, so more coming soon.

The saga of the dark tide

Across the galaxy millions of parents tell children 'there are no real monsters', but there are. Foul xenos, vile daemon spawn and most terrible of all the enemy within. Dark hearted men threaten to destroy the allfathers realm as their evil ambition leads them to consort with dark powers.
Millions of soldiers stand ready to defend the Imperium, but some enemies are too horrible to face and break the minds of lesser men. Thanks be to the emperor for the astartes then, for they shall know no fear; but what if they did.......

There are no wolves on Fenris, yet the wolves of Fenris stand ready to do what they must. Through millenia the wolves have fought the darkest foes of mankind, as unyielding as their task is unending and yet this eternal war has had its casualties; against body mind and soul. The saga of the dark tide then is a tale of true horror, of the darkest malfaecarum.

The tale begins when the world of Anchora was brought low by a drifting space hulk, the enormous mass of interconnected ancient flotsam and jetsam broke from the warp on a direct course for the sacred world. Anchora made ready her defenses, this was no mere agri world; nor even a centre for the imperial guard. Anchora was a sacred bastion world of the administratum, thousands of battle sisters from the adepta soriatas protected her and her most valuable secrets.

But these heroines of mankind were no match for the dark foes that spilled from the dreaded hulk. After the hulk had collided with the plannet Vile psykers tainted by daemon kind spewed forth. Sorcerous rituals rent space and maleficarum crept in, the millions of human lives wer lost; dead or defiled and a gateway to the warp began to transform the world.

Anchora was once a safe house of the Imperium, a bastion that protected a most sacred artifact; a tool said to have been used by the Allfather to create the astartes. This artifact could not be left in darkness, who knows what horrors could follow should the great enemy learn any of the Allfathers secrets of genescience.

The Great Wolf Logan Grimnar despatched a small band of warriors, all that could be spared for such a fools errand and there was little hope of success as the world had already fallen. But if any could succeed it would be the wolves of Fenris. The journey to Anchora was a calm before the storm, the drop to the surface however was hellish, dark magics split the sky foul energies created unnatural storms; the thunderhawks crashed many many miles from the target. As the wolves clambered from the wreckage the true fate of Anchora became apparent, twisted and tortured this once beatific world had become a foul home for daemons. The march was slow, battle relentless; enemies leapt from every shadow and battle seemed to never cease. For a hundred days the wolves marched on grim and focused, each day another brother was lost to the dark tide.

When the pack; for they were all bonded as one by the relentless bloodshed, finally reached there destination despair was all they could find. The artifact had been blackened and defiled by the tainted sorcerers and the world had already been claimed by the ruinous powers. The last of the wolves saw only one option, the power generators had been left intact; setting charges while their brothers dueled with daemons the wolves destroyed the ancient keep killing the psykers and collapsing the gateway they had created to the warp. Anchora was lost to mankind, but at the very least it was denied to the enemy.

By the end just four wolves remained; the once wolf lord Gundarr Vorrik, brother Aver Durri, brother Hanish Tur and Iron priest Drunnok Ffarn. Upon their return to the Fang the Great Wolf could see the horror they had witnessed in their haunted eyes, but he had use for them again. Now the saga continues as Gundarr leads his pack and those few others who have witnessed too much horror, but have a will to fight in them still. For only the sons of Fenris have a will to fight when all others strength would have failed them and death would have found them and interred them with eternal rest.

Khador

Its been a while since I last posted on this blog, but I have been busy as ever. After finishing the Omegon project I of course took the army to the badab war campaign weekend, Im going to do a full write up of that; but suffice to say it was a great weekend and the army did my proud. I even managed to play game 3, which Im normally to pissed to take part in; so well done to me for that one.
So what happend next? Well funds were getting tight and I decided to tackle my oversized marine armies, the what to sell/ what not to sell debate started one hell of a project. I started to strip my Imperial fist battle company. That project is moving on nicely with around 2k back in base colours, so now its playable I will likely be moving them on to a finished project soon; watch this space for images of that.
But the substance of todays post is my Khador, after a great days gaming at Hull Warmachines first PP tournament I got my surge of enthusiasm back. I did play with my Skorne that day but not having enough of them in an unpainted state Ive gotten stuck in with the Khador instead. First off the line are Beast 09 and my Decimator Jacks. Im going for a scheme based of the Beast 09/kodiak colours for the whole force. Sorcha should be coming soon.

Omegon done....

Well he's done, Im reasonably happy with him; but in all honesty Im running out of steam on this one. There is still some time before the event, so perhaps I will add some more details at some point and I may do hydra marks on everything too; time will tell.

Next on the agenda, probably Dystopian wars.

So yet more success as the project continues, here we have my librarian in pre heresy thousand sons.
My grand master, alpha legion with lunar wolf pads (oh the controversy)
A few of the last marines to be painted, I did another 8 but couldnt be bothered to photograph them; Ive been a little busy ;)
and this Im very pleased with, Omegons base seriously outclasses the model for Omegon; but then fluff wise he would be understated (thats my excuse and Im sticking to it).

I have also had a proper bash at my lists and Im delighted in being able to remove 1 dred from the paint cue, sad thing is I will only be fielding the Emperors children dred in 1 mission. Anyway after a few other changes with plans I now have Omegon to finish (maybe tomorrow if it goes well), the 4 rhino/ razorbacks that are well started and the inquisitor and six eldar pyskers as my alien allies. Oh and 3 tau drones to be as servo skulls, Im really making the most of xenos tech.

Sunday, 29 May 2011

Well its been head down and paint paint paint! As I prepare for the Badab wars campaign weekend. Project Omegon as its currently known, though a better name is needed; is basically a grey knights codex force based on the Omegon storyline from Legion. Then Ive added suggestions of the captain Garro story being involved or perhaps just other legion survivors, basically I wanted the range of pre heresy colour schemes.

Pretty much every model is a conversion to reflect the individual nature of alpha legionaires.
Im about a third of the way through;with 10 power armoured models, 2 terminator armoured characters, 1 drednought, 4 rhino/razorback tranports and then an inquisitor and a ten man retinue. Looks like Im still going to be busy for a while.

The Rise of the Skorne

So Ive gone all Hordes at the minute, well amongst others in the mad dash into non GW systems. How did it happen this time? well firstly as many know Im a tart for buying toy soldiers, so I made a little start but couldnt get stuck in because I didnt like the Skorne red. Then I had my first game and became very enthusiatic, made my excuses to have a purple/gold force and boom! Two weeks later I have a nice painted starter force and another warbeast on its way (Titan Canoneer next).

Ariakassa is born

Well I have to admit a full sculpt was not happening, so I cannot claim that; however I had a brain storm and hit the bits box. So here she is, Daemon Princess Ariakassa. Oh no not the pretty floating apperition, the princess is the horror submerged; of course you would only discover that after walking love stricken straight into her terrible clutches.
Not only have I made the princess, but I have busy with the whole army and its another paintjob done; with the acception that some more marble debris wants to be added to the rest of the army bases. This is the slanneshi force.
and this is the nurgle bit (say hi to meg, she's waving)
 and the golgothan shit daemon.

So whats next for my daemons, well some final basing touches, the making of fancy movement trays so they work for fantasy too; then lots of lovely gaming.

Welsh Guards armoured recce squadron

Its early days for me and FOW, but Im happily building a late war british force. Heres a few early snaps, theres still details and markings to add to all of them and the two Cromwells have details and highlights to be done too.

The Daemons are coming!

It wouldnt be right for this blog with this name to start with anything other than the disciples of the dark prince.

So having finally found the love my daemon army deserves it has both seen a game and a paint brush. The force is being made on 40k bases but some cleaver movement trays will be made to make a fantasy army too, though the fantasy army will be slannesh only (yes thats a lot of daemonettes).
Anyway here are a few snaps of the works so far, with much more to come. I have done 15 daemonttes so far with another 15 soon to join them, sample image below. Then 3 fiends with 3 to come, just as soon as I find the missing pair of claws! Of course best bit yet the chariot, Im very happy with this; but there is one model with plans more ambitious than the chariot. Im attempting a rather exstensive sculpt for my daemon princess Ariakassa (rules keeper of secrets), but as with the previous attempts to make her it may well be beyond my skill; still Ive got to try.
