Bolt Action!

Images are all over the place, but who cares, you can still see them.

There's just over a 1k lists worth here, enough to get me started at the game. Im really quite happy with these, Ive put a bit more effort in than usual and Im pleased with the higher standard. So next Ill be off to the battle field, anyone who is keen to throw down get in touch.

  1. They're looking splendid sir, your painting speed is bordering on insanity!! You've also swayed me, I was considering an M5 halftrack for each of my units... now I'm definitely getting them.

  3. Thanks Shane. The M5 is great, good armour, fire power and great capacity. I really like that you can put multiple units in a transport in this game, so if you have assault infantry, PIAT teams, command, flame throwers whatever, you can swap who goes in depending on need. Makes much more sense then the old 40k 'you can't use my rhino because its my rhino'.
Looking forward to it pete keep me posted.

  4. The models for this look really nice. Not really looked in to any of the rules though. Worth a look?

  5. It certainly is, its a very accessible system with plenty of room for tactical play and army builds.

    1. May take a look into it and see what I think. Been insanely busy lately but I should have more time come September.

  6. How many points is that force? Also how many players at the club are playing the game Ben?

  7. This force is about 1k, it can be more depending on what quality you rate the troops at (inexperienced, regular or veteran). The clubs got a healthy group of about 8-10 players I think. Shane knows better than I on that score though.

  8. OK I was looking at getting into flames of war but I think this is probably more up my street. I've seen some players using model tanks in the 1/48 scale for playing games of Bolt Action, can you tell me how detailed the model vehicles are? They look ok from pictures on the web I was just wondering why they do this?

  9. I think the detail on warlords own models is great. The plastic kits come with a good variety of parts, including several clearly distinct heads. The vehicles are good too. I did have some slight casting failure on the M5 half track and had to re sculpt part of the passenger side front mudguard, but that aside I'm really happy with both vehicles I have. As for why people have used other kits, perhaps cost, though warlords models are very cost effective, may customisability? A plastic kit is often easier than resin to adapt. Not sure really.

  10. Yeah both kits are almost identical in price so I couldn't really understand why. Now I'm going to have to grab an army starter set, at £75 for 1000 pts its seems to be good value, just have to decide which force now.

  11. The 1k boxes are great, that's what I started with, all I've added is the M5, observer team and the officer that comes with the forces of Britain book and I'm up to almost 1.5k; with 8 infantry still unbuilt.

But what to go for, now that is tricky.

  12. Well I know what I'm going for lol. It's either Germans as I have a soft spot for their armour or a Commando force as thats what I served in when I was in the army. I don't know how viable the latter is or indeed what armour they have access to but I love the thought of playing the green beret, I'm guessing they will be a real small force of veteran troopers with some nice rules but without access to the British book yet I will have to wait and see.
Germans hell yes as I like playing the bad guys, they get some of the best tanks "Tiger, Tiger, Tiger" and were probably some of the best troopers in the WW II.
Do you know what the other players have gone for?

  13. Warlord have just released more commando models, command and such, so take a look at them. Armour wise it depends wether you use the book loose and free, in which case you can take almost any; or a specific theatre list. Off the top of my head there is the market garden list, all paras, but that is pretty restricted on armour.

As for the clubs faction breakdown, I believe there are a quite a few Brits players (I already use welsh guards for flames so did that for this too), a couple of Germans, at least one Soviet, Japanese and Italian. So not a bad split, but I believe it's Brit heavy.
